How to use Image Quality Changer
- Choose your image and an output format.
- Move the quality slider and compare both the picture and actual file size.
- Download the previewed result when the balance looks right.
A closer look
Quality controls the strength of lossy encoding for JPG and WebP. It does not recover details that were missing from the original. A higher setting usually retains more detail at a larger size; a lower setting can be useful for previews and small web graphics. Results vary by browser encoder and image content. PNG is not offered as a quality-slider format because its normal browser encoding is lossless.
A practical example
Compare a photo at quality 80 and quality 50. Look at fine lettering and edges as well as file size; lowering the setting does not change pixel dimensions.
A useful tip
Inspect edges, faces, and small lettering instead of choosing a quality number by itself.
Good questions. Simple answers.
Does 100 mean the original bytes are preserved?
No. The browser still creates a new encoded image, and prior compression damage cannot be undone.
What happens to transparent areas?
WebP preserves supported transparency. JPG replaces it with white.
