How to use CGPA Calculator
- Choose your institution’s grade-point maximum.
- Enter each semester’s GPA and the credit hours included in that GPA.
- Add semesters and read the cumulative result as it updates.
A closer look
Cumulative GPA weights each semester by its credits. For example, a GPA of 3.5 over 15 credits and 3.0 over 12 credits gives (3.5 × 15 + 3.0 × 12) ÷ 27 = 3.2778, displayed as 3.28. A simple average of semester GPAs is correct only when the credit totals match. Using rounded semester GPAs can produce a small difference from an official transcript computed course by course.
A practical example
A 3.5 GPA over 15 credits and 3.0 over 12 credits combine to about 3.28. A plain average of the two GPAs would ignore the different credit totals.
A useful tip
Use the credits included in each semester GPA, not necessarily every registered credit. Excluded or pass/fail courses may not count.
Good questions. Simple answers.
Does changing the scale convert old GPAs?
No. All entered GPAs must already use the same scale. The maximum is a validation limit, not a conversion formula.
Is this my official CGPA?
It is an estimate from the numbers you enter. Your institution may apply retake, transfer, exclusion, and rounding policies.
