How to use Background Remover
- Choose a photo with a clearly visible person.
- Select Remove background. The local AI engine loads only when you start; its progress is shown on screen.
- Compare the transparent result with your original, then download the PNG.
A closer look
This tool uses MODNet portrait matting to estimate which pixels belong to a person and make the surroundings transparent. Processing runs in a worker on your device. It is designed for portraits, not general product cutouts: pets, furniture, reflections, and complex scenes may not be separated correctly. Fine hair and similar foreground/background colors can need further editing. The model creates a soft transparency mask rather than replacing the background with white.

No. The model and runtime are downloaded as site assets, then your photo is processed locally.
Why does the first run take longer?
The browser first loads about 21 MB of engine and model files. A modern browser with WebAssembly and enough free memory is required. You can cancel processing at any time.
