How to use Discount Calculator
- Enter the original price and the first discount percentage.
- Leave the extra discount at 0, or enter a second percentage taken off the reduced price.
- Read the final price, total saving, and combined discount.
A closer look
A discount reduces a price by a percentage. Final price = original price × (1 − first discount/100) × (1 − extra discount/100). Two discounts are applied one after the other, not added together. For example, 20% off 100 gives 80, and an extra 10% off 80 gives 72: the total saving is 28%, not 30%.
A practical example
20% off a price of 100 gives 80. An additional 10% discount then gives 72, making the combined saving 28 rather than 30.
A useful tip
Check whether a shop applies a coupon before or after taxes and other charges. This tool calculates discounts only, with no added tax, shipping, or fees.
Good questions. Simple answers.
What does 100% off do?
It makes the final price zero. Discounts cannot exceed 100% or be negative.
Why might a till total differ by a cent?
This calculator rounds the final displayed figures. A store may round each intermediate discount separately.
