How to use Date Difference Calculator

  1. Choose the start date and end date.
  2. Read the elapsed days, weeks, and calendar breakdown. Use Swap dates if you entered them backwards.
  3. For an inclusive date count, turn on Count both start and end dates.

A closer look

The default total measures elapsed calendar days: January 1 to January 2 is one day. Inclusive counting makes that two dates by including both endpoints. The years–months–days breakdown always describes elapsed calendar time; it does not change when inclusive counting is selected. Months are advanced from the start date and clamped to the destination month’s last valid day, which handles shorter months and leap years consistently.

A practical example

January 1 to January 2 is one elapsed day. Turn on inclusive counting to count both calendar dates and get two instead.

A useful tip

This counts calendar days, including weekends and holidays. It compares dates only, so time zones and daylight-saving clock changes do not add or remove a day.

Good questions. Simple answers.

How is February 29 handled?

Real calendar dates are validated and leap days count normally. Advancing a year from February 29 clamps to February 28 when the destination year is not a leap year.

What happens when both dates are the same?

Elapsed time is zero. With inclusive counting, one calendar date is counted.
